Introduced in 1892. Discontinued in 1943. This attractive back design had a very long run. Easily found in red or blue, at least in later issues, but quite rare in green and brown. The only example I have seen in US8aa is a blue 32 card euchre deck (without a box). Steve Bowling reports that he has a complete blue Safety deck in US8aa.

Like several other Bicycle back designs, Safety can be found in the form of a music deck. The image, below, shows a single Safety music card from my collection. The other known designs that were adapted for music decks are Cupid (Sod), Emblem, Lotus, Old Fan, Thistle (Sod), and Wheel No. 1. The Safety music single appears to be from the same issue as the Emblem and Old Fan music singles. Please see the Lotus page for an example of a complete music deck. There is no evidence that Russell and Morgan or the United States Playing Card Company ever issued such decks, so it is my assumption that blank faced Bicycle decks were purchased and the music elements were then printed by third party printers.
