Introduced in 1902. Discontinued in 1906. Decks are hard to find in blue and VERY rare in red. Some early Bicycles are like this and it’s hard to say why one of a pair of colors is more difficult to find than the other. Interestingly, red singles appear far more often than blue.
Pictured below is an early issue US8d box. Note the small green image of the back design printed on the inside flap. Autobike No. 1 is one of five different Bicycle designs that are known to be issued in this special box. For a complete list please visit the “US8d” page by clicking on the link, above.
USPCC reissued Autobike No. 1 in red and blue editions in January of 2017 (see the box, pictured below). The box is not historically accurate for Autobike (or any other Bicycle deck). Also note that the United States Printing Company had ceased to exist many years before the introduction of Autobike, and the spade ace depicted on the box is usually associated with a US8aa or US8b deck. Whether correct or not, however, I think the presentation is graphically pleasing. This reissue is available at Barnes & Noble in red and should be available at Walgreens in both colors. Thanks to Rod Starling for the information and pictures.
